Our programme of activities is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and enables all children to work towards the Early Learning Goals.
Through a wide variety of cross-curricular themes such as ‘Growing’ or ‘Nursery Rhymes’ we plan activities to cover the six areas of learning shown below.
Personal, social and emotional development
Children will be encouraged to interact with the adults and make friendships among their peers, playing together, sharing, negotiating and caring for others. They will have the opportunity to make choices and follow their own interests with the support of the staff. They will gradually become more independent in preparation for school.
Communication, language and literacy
Children will be encouraged to develop their use of language in many different areas. A variety of role-play situations encourage conversation and vocabulary development. Stories, small group discussions and rhyme time are an important part of each session. Older children will begin to develop their writing and understand the importance of the printed word.
Mathematics
Through a variety of activities children develop an interest in numbers and counting. A wide range of equipment and staff support ensures many opportunities to experience shape, space and measurement. Older children will begin to solve simple numerical problems.
Knowledge of the world
A variety of themes help children to explore and investigate materials, technology, the natural world and different cultures.
Creative development
A wide range of creative activities are available every day: these include a variety of methods of painting, collage, modelling and construction. Music and imaginative play form part of every session.
Physical development
Children will be able to use our extensive equipment to climb, balance, slide, jump, pedal a bike, play with a giant parachute and use hoops and balls – both inside and outside throughout the year. Fine motor skills will develop through the use of a variety of construction activities and other tools.
